About Chillerpillar

 

The Chillerpillar Open is one of Western Canada’s premier Magic: The Gathering community events, bringing together players, collectors, creators, retailers, and gaming enthusiasts for an unforgettable weekend of gaming and community.

Originally launched in a small meeting room at Thompson Rivers University during the Okanagan winter, Chillerpillar has grown significantly each year. In 2024, the event expanded into the university gymnasium. In 2025, the move to a summer schedule resulted in record-breaking attendance, making Chillerpillar one of the largest Magic: The Gathering events in Western Canada.

For 2026, we have secured our largest venue to date, creating more opportunities for retailers, exhibitors, artists, community groups, and gaming organizations to participate.

Chillerpillar is more than just a tournament weekend—it is a celebration of the Magic: The Gathering community and the friendships built through the game. The event was originally created to support a valued community member currently battling cancer and has since grown into one of Western Canada’s premier community gaming events.

Attendance Growth

 

Chillerpillar has experienced year-over-year growth since its inception, including over 30% growth annually and a record-setting 2025 event. With our largest venue to date secured for 2026, we anticipate another significant increase in attendance from players, collectors, creators, and tabletop gaming enthusiasts from across British Columbia and Western Canada.​
